I have had red slime before but its always been in patches or sheets. As usual i have been syphoning it plus increased water change.

Ive never had cyano be so stringy or so strongly attached to rock making syphoning a pain

Anyone experienced this?

I have the same thing in my tank that has only been established for about 3 months. I set up a BRS GFO reactor and a carbon reactor and its going away. I have read some people have had success turning off the lights for a few days. I added the reactors because I wanted to eventually do that and I rather solve the problem in a long term way then just a quick fix like turning off the lights. Keep doing your wanted changes weekly and watcher your levels.

I did just changed my reacor media so hopfully ill see some results. Seems like its just getting worse every day though. Cut lights back from 7 hrs to 5 hrs before the cyano outbreak started.

Guess only time will tell

cyano is bateria. its the same strain. its stingy more on rocks but will grow to sheets when left untouch. sheets on sand due to the more even surface.

try increase water flow/less lighting time and increase skimming

Looking at this rock, this looks like a new reef. You're certain to go through several outbreaks as your bacterial population compensates for increased bio-load and feeding. Even if you are "low nutrient" you can still get a cyano outbreak. Eventually it will go away on its own but could take months of siphoning. Lots of guys used Microbe-lift Special Blend successfully including myself (I'm using it right now on my new tank with success). Be warned, this product smells like fresh horse dung on a hot summer day.
