Soak the rocks in lanthium chloride. It will strip the PO4 out. Its safer than muriatic acid and you can get it at any pool store. Tap water not only contains PO4, there are heavy metals in it that can eventually screw things up worse. Don't know about NYC water but if you are asking...means you already have a concern. Which means you already know the answer...

Peteyboyny lanthium chloride? Not only do i want to remove po4 but there are dead carcus' in the rock that have to be processed out will L C do this as well like the acid?

What's NYC tap water like under 50 TDS? That's pretty much RO water compared to NJ tap!

I just checked mine its 28 ppm...I'm in queens ny

Yea i get anything from 20s to 40. But usually low 30s. And i know alot of people and most fishstores and aquariums that say they have been tap for years no issues. Imaging a aquarium needing to make ro/di water. But hey....

from what i read it only takes about a week then you can start your cycle. it takes months for coraline algae and bacteria to grow.

I dont care much for coraline that can take its time. But dont i need the bacteria asap? How can i start with out it?

if you seed it with a couple of pieces of live rock and sand, bacteria will start to colonize quickly, but will take months to mature.

you can start the muriatic process with tap water.
