i have this green thick algae sticking to my sandbed and starting to creep up my rock. when i clean it out it is so stuck to my sand that it takes a layer of sand with it. anyone know what type of algae this is? what causes it? and how i can get rid of it?

Without a picture we can not tell you what type of algae it is!
Excess nutrients is what causes it!
Start by using R0/DI water, check the age of your bulbs, step up your tank maintenance, rinse all frozen foods, and try to get dry foods that do not contain phosphates. Get an adequate CUC (clean up crew).
But most important is the tank maintenance!! Water changes with good quality water..
