My tank however is at a comfortable 80 as usual. I don't have a chiller or an AC, just a $15 fan. Why people get rid of their tanks in summer is beyond me. Btw I only have a 34 gallon tank.

Maybe your home defies the laws of physics but I know in my home when the A/C breaks...if the room gets to 90 degrees, no fan in the world will keep my tank cool.

Its a good idea, Just make sure your ATO is working properly, you will have alot of evaporation with a fan blowing across the top of the water.

Tell me about it. I have ATO and I refill almost 5 gallons every week or so. I don't really mind that. Also last summer on my 8 gallon the temp went to 89 and fell as low as 64 after sandy. So I'm not really worried about it. Ovs I don't have any $5,000 fish or coral but still.

about 2wks ago when it was 90 before summer was official, my 2nd fl apt was 86-88
degrees. My tank definitely hit a high of 87 (it was only that high for an hour or so according to my apex, but the average for those 2 days was 85-86.

So, needless to say, I now have a $600 AC unit for my open concept living/kitch area.
So, even though it may be 90something out, my tank is only 80.5 degrees.

The ac also functions as a heater, dehumidifier and air purifier or something, so worth the money.

I dont know why people post these threads. Trolling maybe?

If its 97 outside and in your apt, your tank with a $15 fan will not cool it to 80. your controller/little glass thermo is broken or somehow you managed to defy nature.

Also, if you can just have an AC in the general area of the tank, a chiller isnt needed. To the arguement 'what if the AC dies' 1) Dont buy a used AC from 1986 2) Buy a new one...

Being a noob, I find threads like this very useful to understand what others are doing to keep their tanks cool. Esp. on days like today and tomorrow. I was not prepared in May when the temp outside hit 90 degrees two days straight.
I contemplated getting an AC but ultimately settled for 2 fans. One over the sump and one over the top of the DT. Temp is at 80.5 so far today.
I will eventually get an AC, but I have plans for a bigger in-wall unit that is a few weeks off before I can purchase and get it setup.

Don't know what trolling is lol . Also it's not 97 inside my appt it's 97 outside today. As I said maybe since I live on 7th flr it's cooler up here. And why do people post these threads? I don't know why not.

I'm in Brooklyn it was 94 here but felt like 97 (according to weather app) so it's basically 97.

It also depends what type of equipment you run. I have a 120 SPS tank and it requires a good bit of supporting equipment that utilize pumps and generate heat. Big 48 inch light (t5/LED), large DC-powered skimmer, DC return, UV sterilizer, Biopellet reactor, etc, etc.
