How does one age their new saltwater?

Have you noticed some mixes disolving better than others?

For the first couple of years I was not mixing my salt correctly until an old timer like myself enlightened me.

I hear you, I agree. Thus, I think it's a great thread for less seasoned keepers to stumble upon, really great topic.

Undoubtedly.....once I got sick of that, I started purchasing Catalina Real Ocean Water and one a tank or two I have also used the Nutri Sea Water from Natures Ocean. I''ve not gone back to mixes since. Pros and cons with using either or, though you've just got to find what works for you.

I usually run for at least 48 hours and even then leave an inch of water in the pail, never fails that some of the mix doesn't dissolve fully.

The odds are that the undissolved mix is the Borate.

Before you add your mix make sure your water temp is at least 75 degrees and use a strong pump to stir your mix - Garry
