hey guys as stated in the thread, my RODI storage container which is located in the basement smells like mildew when i open the cover top of the brute container. Its a yankee basement and does not have any water problems to give this mildew smell but is there anyway to avoid this. I do not think this will be good for the tank. Does anyone else have this problem....

Hey Tony, is it a regular gray brute container? I had the same problem even after rinsing it every month or so. I switched to a blue container, food and water safe and problem solved. Hope this helps.

sanman yea its a reg. brute container with a lid. i really did not want to spend the amount of money they want for those containers but looks like i have no choice. unless i can make the lid with a good seal. :arg:

i wonder how bad this water is for my tank since it smells like that......

I paid $25 for that container new in a warehouse close to me. I'll try to swing by tomorrow and see if they still have any left. I can pick one up for you if you like.

iys not something that is out as its buried by other stuff or they bring you one up. Just ask for a shipping container. If they are latin, island, or Asian they will know what you want and if not they will tell you where to go. I don't know Howel but if you are ever in manhattan you can find then right over the GWB

I had the same problem with my ato bucket when I kept my cover on it. I would give the RODI container and your circulating pump a good cleaning with Vinegar and rinse thoroughly. When you start filling it again leave the top propped open for fresh air circulation.

Here's something to think about: If you remove the lid you expose the container to evaporation. If you have an ASOV and float valve, that may cause your system to short cycle (kick on and off frequently). You don't want that.

What complications will arise from the short cycle? I have a pump circulating the water in my storage container with the lid propped open and I know the pump causes the short cycle of the RODI UNIT until the water level is high enough to fully shut off with the waves.

If the system only ever turns on for a couple/few minutes at a time, all, or a high percentage of the water you get out of the system will be TDS creep water. TDS creep is a process that causes relitively high TDS water to be produced by the RO system when it is first turned on. This period only typically lasts for a minute or two. Here's some data of two test runs using a 75 gpd membrane:
