elegance coral detached from mantle

So the other day I come home from work and noticed my elegance coral was gone but the mantle was still there so I assumed it melted away and immediately tested the water. Everything was normal. Baffled I just shrugged my sholders and removed the mantle. yesterday I get home and see the elegance coral poking out of my rock work about 9 inches to the left and a foot up from where it used to be on the sandbed. Is this normal?

You mean the coral separated from the skeleton? If so, this is sadly quite common and though the flesh may survive for a time, I have never seen it regrow a skeleton and recover. Why they do this I am not sure, but it is not a "normal " behavior for a healthy Elegance coral.

It really does suck. It survived 3 tank crashes and it's my oldest coral.

I had the same problem with some acans that detached from their skeleton and it didn't last too long after that. Turned out to be a bacterial infection.

I've been keeping two Aussies for 3 years, in the past I cherry picked some indo ones that just detached within months , I think those are caught now real deep and don't like bright lights

Polyp pop out for me was due to high phospates and they are trying to run away to better conditions. From what I read, if the polpy was placed in pristine water, polyps can be held down with netting and may regrow a new skeleton.

Not true. I have two living 6 inches under metal halides for the past few months and theyre australian.
