like most reefers..ive always had a problem with ick...its def in my tank, but dont feel the hassle of qting all fish for 8wks and leavn tank fallow for such is worth it since even then theres no garauntee. even hypo treatment isnt valid unless done consistantly and accurately for the entire period...plus in most cases..the smaller tank, less stable water parameters, and meds tend to stress the fish out even more..i have noticed more prevalent spots early morning but they go away in the afternoon...some days are worse than others..was wondering if there were any minor things reefers have done that they fel may have worked or helped keep ick at a minimum or away...

125 mixed reef
achilles, yellow, blue hippo, blonde naso tangs, starry blenny, reefsafe heniochus, two clowns
sump/skimmer/reactor w biopellets
i dose calc and alk
uv sterilizer(may need to change the bulb, not sure how long its been)
i feed corals coral frenzy,cyclopeeze,plankton 2x a wk
feed fish 2x with algae, brine, mysis
parameters are normal but phosphates are a but high probably due to the feedings
20% weekly water change

any ideas or comments? one reefer mentioned to use socks as a preventative..

there are a few REEF SAFE medications you can try they won't kill ich but the floating bacteria (life cycle)

Ruby-Reef-Kick-Ich-2-L-99.jpg

Kick-Ich is reef safe most people say I doesn't work because it doesn't kill the bacteria on the fish but the floating bacterias

reef safe also ,

the best way to eradicate ich from your tank is QT all your fish and treat with coppersafe for about 9 to 10 weeks and leave the tank fish-less so the bacteria doesn't find a host and die

Dre gave me a good advice and it's working on my tank

Get the tank water to 82 degrees keep the fish well feed, use polyfiler pads, rinse in fresh water and reuse daily. And make up water to do 30% water change weekly.

you can try any of the options above but I saw 2 of my fish with ich about a week ago took them out QTed and treated with Mardel CopperSafe and there is no sing of ich in any fish already

Just went through this used garlic extreme and marine C. Ick Attack did nothing for me but garlic and C in food kept everyone eating and they fought off Ick and no deaths, thankfully. I know this doesn't kill ick but by keeping their immune systems and slime coat healthy helped. Looking forward to comments as Ick is such a pain.

your tangs are ICK hosts. IME, as long as fish are actively eating, their immune system will combat it. like humans, the common cold is always around, but we get immune each time we catch it. keep the water params spot on & the fish can remain "healthy". simple maintenence just like washing our hands before handling any food can go a long way.

i agree with the garlic get the seaweed with the garlic xtract and dose small amounts of garlic x in the tank and invest in a cleaner shrimp they do help he cleaned my fish all off and I've never had another out break but keep an eye on stress levels and water temp thats just my input
