Hello everyone i just joined into your awesome hobbie as of last night. My friend at work is always talking about his tank and showing me pics of his tank, i wanted a piece of the ocean in my house so last night i dove in head first lol. I bought a 57 gallon rimless from one of the members from this site with the sand, about 60 lbs rocks a few little corals like frogspawns and torch and a pair of clowns a coral beauty and a anthias. I set up the tank yesterday and left it running i figure till monday since its like a complete transfer. i took all the guys water to and set up the fish in a small tank i had at home. My next steps is to buy a few more things hopefully ya can help, this tank isnt reef ready and my friend arnaldolex is telling me thats the way to go. i need a overflow box rated for 60 gallons plus i also need a return pump maybe a mag 6 or higher and a sump but we might make one from a 20 gallon my friend has laying around . I also need some lights, i didnt get the lights from the guy looking for some good leds for a good price maybe two fixtures or enough light to cover a 4 ft tank. In about another week i wanna start getting some more corals and fish right now the tank doesnt have much and i wanna fill her up. If anyone in long island has some corals for sale at a great price you can inbox me am looking for some amazing colors, and freebies will never be turned down lol. If this post is in the wrong forums mods please move and i apoligize in advance.

First off. Welcome to the hobby.

No offense but you should really get everything in order before putting corals and livestock in the tank. The corals need the proper lighting and proper filtration. It seems you are jumping the gun wanting to buy coral and "fill up the tank" the filling up is the fun part. Take your time and find corals and fish you really like and can keep. Hopefully they will be with you for a long time. I only realize later on that i don't want some corals anymore and do not have space for some nicer corals i wanted.

You should get all the plumbing and overflow done and purchase lighting before getting any more corals. Do you currently have a light fixture at all? If not maybe your friend at work or lex can hold your coral for you. Without light your corals will be dead in a few days.

Big big big thing. Is to take it slow slow slow. And dip your corals and inspect them before putting them in your tank

Welcome :)
Baams right, take it slow. Patience is key and dont forget to be on top of your params and water changes when needed. Read a lot before buying a coral or fish. Some fish are reef safe , others dont do good in a 60 and others might be aggressive to your current tank mates. Some corals might need prestine water conditions and an established tank. Coral placement is key too. Have fun and good luck.
