I mix 30g of IO Reef crystals once a month. I do a 20g water change within 24 hrs of mixing and then store the remaining 10g in two carib-sea containers. I then use the 10g to do another water change 2 weeks later.
So a water change is done every two weeks, once with 20g and the second time with 10g. When I do the 20g water change I drain and clean out the sump and reactors.

Lastly, sometimes if time doesn't permit, I skip the 10g water change and I still use it 4 weeks later!

I use red sea pro. I do 40gl every saturday. Usually i start mixing while i take my time changing gfo and cleaning my skimmer cup and vacuuming the sump and taking 40gallons of water and everything that has to do with maintenance. When im done an hour or so later my new saltwater is ready to use.
I dnt have the space to store saltwater but is definitely not big deal if u manage ur time at water changes.
Gd luck bro.

the problem with storing made sw is it tends to precipitate and cal and alk levels will ans can drop. the residue alot of people see in the bucket is precipitation or junk metals that was in the salt mix

I use Coralife salt its cheap and mixes cleaner than the others. I test and adjust it before I do the water change with b-ionic. I mix 40 gallon for my personal tank and use it over 2 weeks. uncover and mix + air stone 24hrs before water change.

The higher concentration salts will precipitate and since I plan to adjust the levels why pay more for the salt. Also once or twice a year I will do a big water change with either nutra-sea or aquavitro to make sure any element I may be lacking has a chance to be replenished, that may just be my own mental defect.

My RODI is teed off to two 20g Brute containers. One for for straight rodi and the other to mix salt water. I try to do my weekly water changes Friday afternoon as I work from home. Thursday I will open the valve to the Sw brute so I know it's full. Then either Thursday night or Friday morning I will add the salt and turn on the PH.

My LPS tank is booming right now using IO reef crystals and 10-15 gal weekly water changes.

Just sucks lugging 15 gals of water (3 trips) up the stairs from the laundry room in the basement to the DT in the living room

What Is That Brown Stuff From Reef Crystals I Get That Too. Thinking About Switching When This Bucket Is done

that was the reason i switched to esv after using reef crystals for > 4yrs. happy with the esv....mixed clear, on point, and no residue.

i have 2x 44 gal. brute containers of ro/di and 2x mixed salt water (~80 gal.) at all time. each salt water container is circulated by a koralia 1400, a heater and aerated with an air pump. most of the time they're used up in two weeks, then i make a new batch. been storing them like this for the past 6-7 yrs with no significant shift in any parameter. i do double check the saltlinity, ph, and temp. before using though. i go through a 200 gal. box in about 4-6 weeks. i have more than once stored the water for more than a month without any problem.

Can't speak for other salt mixes..but esv is known to mix within minutes..I make the salt water an hr before I do my changes with a pump to keep mixture consistent..my levels have been constant..
