Herbie/ Dual OverFlow Question

I will be using the HERBIE overflow on a dual overflow tank that has 2 1" holes on each side, each side will have a full syphon and an emergency drain. my sump is located in basement so i have 2 1.5" lines going down, one will be emergency and one will be full syphon. My question is should i put one gate valve after i tie the 2 full syphons together or should i put a gate valve on each full syphon before they are tied together,

Very important on a herbie overflow to dial in the flow. That is what makes it whisper quite.

So you have 2 1" lines going at full siphon tied into 1 1.5" line? Same for the emergency drains?

I would wonder how you are going to properly run at full siphon like that. I've 0 experience running a full siphon drain, but it doesn't sound right to me...

Also the emergency drains should not have any valves on them as they are emergency you should only need the valves on the full siphon lines.

I would think also that you need a valve on each full siphon drain but if they are getting tied together as you describe it may be an exercise in futility because once you tune one drain you may have to tune the other....

Now if you have the emergency and herbie drains on each side tied together, then the answer is easy, but then the emergency drain only covers you if you the clog is above the valve only.

Sorry for the long post. But I've been trying to learn about full siphon drains for a bit now and we don't usually discuss them much on MR.

Ok I reread your op. I would think still two valves, but it will definitely take some tweaking to dial in... One would be simpler as the amount of full siphon needed is going to be dictated by the return pump. Since you have the emergency ones separate, you could get away with one valve.

Again I have 0 experience on this side of the plumbing... Very interested to hear more.

I have herbie on my FOWLR and it is quite. I have values on both full siphon drains.
Emergency is not valve controlled. Definitely takes a while to get to the sweet spot to dial in.

I'm thinking of a Herbie for my build also. Was gonna put a valve on the emergency just for maintenance purposes, full open otherwise.

You cant do that on a full siphon drain...then you wont get a siphon...

I have ran a full syphon/Herbie many time and they work great, my problem is thefact that i am tying 2 full syphons into one and my question is should i adjust my syphon with one valve or 2 one at each overflow
