I can remember 25 minutes ago, I was in the bathroom, before that is mostly a blur but I know I had a fish tank.
My first tanks were wood, no really, wood, the same stuff they make trees out of. But they were not for fish, they were for turtles. I had fish also, probably in glass tanks with iron sides but I was very into turtles. The fish were mainly to feed the turtles. Where I live in New York used to be rural. Yes, NY had rural areas. And I used to collect turtles in the neighborhood. There was box turtles, and painted turtles which were in water. Occasionally my Dad who owned a sea food business would bring me home a diamond back terrapin which is a salt marsh turtle. I can still find them here in tidal pools but they are protected as people eat them, like there is a shortage of peanut butter and jelly so they have to eat turtles.
The Bronx Zoo used to sell desert tortoises for like 4 bucks and I always had them but none of mine ever lived for 150 years like they were advertised to do. The largest aquarium in Manhattan used to sell baby green sea turtles to the aquarium trade. That must have been a surprise when one day you wake up and the thing is 300lbs and doesn't want to eat flake food. :turtle:
