Dialing back return pumps

Any feedback on dialing back return pumps. I have read plenty of mixed reviews. Some saying the pump runs more efficient dialing it back. And others saying it runs hotter and kills the lifespan.
What do you guys think
I am running a eheim 1260 and it is too strong. It is causing gurgling in my drain line. When I dial it back half way it is nice and quiet.
Don't mind dialing it back but don't want to damage pump if it is not recommended. I also have a t connected to the return which runs to my gfo reactor

i have my eheim 1262 dialed back for 2 years. Also i didn't clean it for guess...... 2 years lol. I finally cleaned it last week and was very surprised that it wasn't a disaster. It was a little dirty but i was expecting a disaster. Great pump and also dose alk/cal/mag and kalk in that chamber with no effect to the pump whatsoever.

As long as its the outlet side its fine just don't do the intake side. There designed that they can be throttled back I believe its called a passive pump but not 100 percent on that.

IMO, dialing it back half way is a bit much. Any chance you can add a manifold/another Tee and sending some of the flow back into the sump?
