Hi Everyone,
As some of you remember, I lost my reef to Superstorm Sandy and haven't returned to reefkeeping since.
I am beginning a process of constructing a new home, and am considering the incorporation of a reef into the home. Obviously this would be a beautiful addition and a centerpiece to my home, but as we all know, it would also entail a significant financial and time commitment.
Originally I was planning to include an outdoor pond on the property (i dont know anything about ponds, but I suspect it is probably easier to maintain than a reef). But looking at the plans, I have a nice 7ft wall opposite the front entrance that looks like its just begging for a reef.
In a way, there is some sense of freedom in living without a reef, so much less to worry about. Oy. Decisions decisions.
Anyway, at least I thought I would pop in here and say hello to everyone.

Congrats and best of luck on new home, I took a long vaca from hobby and decided to come back: so long everything had changed on me. The fact you stopped in to say hello means you have the itch again or it never left. Welcome back!

ha ha, thanks T. At this point, maybe i'll even do both. lol. pond would be outside in the back and reef would be obviously inside. I'll probably have to brush up on my "stuff" as my reef keeping knowledge is probably archaic at this point. been almost 2 years and probably at least 3-4 more till i'm up and running again.

I've never kept Koi, would have to learn about that stuff. Anybody here ever have a Koi pond? i'm guessing it's a lot less complicated than a reef.

I never have enough space for one myself (pond) but have setup and maintained a bunch. By maintain Basically just open and close the ponds, shouldn't be too much you need to do during the season. It's the best of both worlds plus really sweet in the summer since most poeple are outside rather then inside and I don't know anyone with an outdoor aquarium to look at. If you take the plunge I don't know where your located but I got a hook up in Jersey at a koi farm.
