I pick up a giant round, looks like a dish of seaweed from the Chinese supermarket for $3 which I use in soups. The package is 10" in diameter and it comes in 1" or 2" thinkness. Its finer then the nori kelp, its the red algae. Very soft and my fish like that better then the nori which I believe is made from the tougher brown algae. The red algae is just dried and softens quickly in water. I believe Nori has to be roasted to make it flaky. Anyway the Chinese also sell whole dried kelp, shreaded kelp, in addition to the roasted sheets and the dish of red algae I prefer.
You can find it in the same aisle as the dried fruits, mushrooms and fungus.
I cant speak of quality control in China in regards to organic. Its farmed from the ocean, probably near industrial run off, semi treated sewage and acid-rain filled rivers, but that doesn't stop me from eating it. Just don't feed it to a growing child. LOL. never mind the lead or mercury, PCBs, oh I can just keep going.
