Well as shark week vastly approaches us next week and I'm usually the first to remind people of this here..I been entertaining the idea of heading out to montauk to jump in a shark cage and I'm wondering if any fellow members here that did it already can share there experience good and bad.I'm also looking to see if anyone else might be interested in planning a trip

Who knows maybe this can turn into a yearly event!

My wife did this when we were in Mexico. I chickened out. She said the sharks were huge but visibility was poor. They fed the sharks with these skewer type things. You could actually hear the sharks banging against the cage. She said she was ok when it was like 1 or 2 small sharks but then the big boys came in and it was a frenzy. But she would do it again. I have the video somewhere around the house as well as swimming with the dolphins. Something else I chickened out on

Say what you guys want but it wasn't the swimming with the dolphins that you do at sea world or anywhere else. In Mexico I can't remember the name of the place off the top of my head you actually had to get in a boat and go to this operation they had built in the middle of the ocean. It was in between cancan and Cozumel. You walk along these wood makeshift bridges and all underneath you is the ocean. You can see the sharks and the barracudas and all the other fish just waiting for you to fall in and be lunch.
I did stay on the crate like thing and played with the dolphin as much as my masculinity would let me. These dolphins are strong. Pulling people. Damn near tossing them wherever and whenever they wanted to. Plus the fact I can't swim didn't help
I know it sounds funny and strange. But to you guys there teddy bears. To me there man eating machines. Heck these things beat up dolphins and killer whales sometimes. I have no problem getting into a ring every other day and sparring with my camp(mma) but no dolphins for this kid

There is a good amount of sharks right here. I don't think a shark cage dive would be great in our immediate inshore area because of poor visibility (clarity usually improves offshore), but fishing trips can give you a first hand experience with them. The first time I saw a shark in person (blue shark), I was amazed at the size and strength. If you love the water and sea life, shark fishing is a must.
Here is a 350-400lb thresher shark that I caught and released 2 weeks ago, just a few miles off the Rockaways!

Ya know Rich I forgot you charter boats..I spoke over the phone with one of the representative's today from the site I posted..basically it cost $200 for certified divers and $250 without a certification.BUT..you have to bring your own wetsuit and mask (which isn't a problem for me) and it's basically a whole day affair. 10 hours

I would be more than happy to take guys from the site out to go shark fishing (release only), but the problem is I am chartered every weekend and can't neglect my customers or their money :). If you are free during a weekday I can put something together with a few other members that I know are interested. Everyone can split the fuel and bait costs, I have all the gear. I have no interest in being a vendor on the site and I am not making money on a free charter just to make things clear lol :) I just want to share the amazing things I get to see from time to time and have a few laughs with coral geeks like me haha

Rich,

Why didn't you keep that thresher? Aren't they good to eat?
