75G tank with a MP10

I have a 75G tank with a MP10 with it. Do I have to have that extra round piece of rubber between the dry side and the glass??

The mp10 on this size tank is highly underpowered. That's just my opinion and I just can't budget mp40s at this time so I went with budget friendly rw8s from jebao. A little more features that I feel are useful than the regular wp series.
