Has anyone ever tried not doing anything special when cyano appeared, except for going after it with a turkey baster? Will it burn itself out?

Is there a dosing guide for the special blend? I dose it after water changes but I cant seem to get rid of the cyano completely

I did.i was getting patches every day. I'd blow it off and next time it'd be somewhere else..kept doing it and now the only cyano i see is in between the sand and glass in small patches.
Had a nasty outbreak and tried everything, lights out for 3 days, big water changes, siphoning, nothing worked.As a last resort I tried chemiclean as per instructions, it worked like a charm, was really surprised.That was about 2 months ago, have'nt seen a trace of cyno since give it a try.
Cyano was almost covering all my sand bed and 50+% of my rocks. I did 5 days of total darkness. I even cover the tank with black plastic bags
On the second day i use "red slime remover" and added a air pump with the line right at my wp40 so it was bubbles all around the tAnk
Then i completed the 5 days of darkness. Did 80gl water change (200gl system)
The bubbles help bringing everything to the surface (kind of like a skimmer) and i remove it manually.
After 5 days no cyano. Its been 3 months i dont see it anywhere.
Again this is what worked for me it might not work for u.

Interesting! My system is not being overwhelmed, more like patches. I was going to follow your procedure until I was tired of looking at red slime under the microscope, but now I may just clean and ignore it and see if it just eventually disappears.
I don't know why everyone always tries 100x things for red slime. Red slimer remover/chemiclean works. It doesn't have any ill effects on a reef tank and it goes away.
Now, find the reason for your high phosphates or leak of the bad stuff and you won't have to worry about it coming back.
I have had it plenty of times in new setups always comes in about 2-6 months in and use the red slime remover/chemi clean and GONE! Like I said I check all equipment (usually needing new filter cartridges on my ro/di) and it never comes back.
Why go with unproven methods of removal?
Now, find the reason for your high phosphates or leak of the bad stuff and you won't have to worry about it coming back.

I was wondering, have you ever come across anyone discussing the possibility of creating an antibiotic resistant cyanobacteria?
I have not read about the possibility but I usually use what I know works. If there is a proven method I usually stop there unless it pops up on a thread on here or RC that points in a new direction.
Unless the new method is easier than chemiclean instructions (which is easy as it is), what other reason is there to change it up? I have not seen one bad review about it.
I know in this hobby there is more ways than 1 to do things but why go against the grain or be hard headed about something known to work. Cheap, easy to perform and good reviews to clear cyano (red slime).
To show I am not being biased, when I first started out and first encountered red slime I tried just sucking it out as much as possible like others have stated. This was about 2-3 weeks. It would come back because even if you "suck it out" it leaves minimal traces and you have not taken care of the actual reason for it to exist.
Chemiclean isn't a full resolution. it will get rid of the current problem with hopes you are going to take preventative measures or resolve the actual cause.
My current tank - as soon as I saw it I ordered new filters for my ro/di since I knew they were getting close to that point (my HM inline TDS meter got wet and no longer worked). I ran chemiclean and replaced my filters - gone in less than a week from the initial spot. Didn't even get 1/100 of the way of taking over my tank.

I didn't try any medication but I did take steps to control it.
I did a lot of manual removal. And I did lights out for 3 days. Did this twice, a month apart each time. I kept up with same schedule of GFO/Carbon changes and reduce my water change schedule.

After reading this thread took a look at my tank and saw the outbreak of cyano. Ordered the said product and it will be here in a few days. Will se how it works. I have stared a new job so my upkeep on the tank had slipped a bit and this is now occurring. Have not seen signs of it before but here it is, tank is hitting the end of the 5 month mark so I was expecting to have a little outbreak. Will do a water change and etc and see how it goes.
