Hello all
I could really use some advice right now on my reef tank.this is a marineland 300 DD. it has about 300 pounds of live rockand MP 40 and then MP 60 on each side Wall and a haydor on the back The tank has about 2 inches of same bed that I vacuum every week when I do a 40 gallon water change. It has three eco-tech Radion gen2 for lights. The tank has 125 gallon sump and fuge. My fuge has calerpa with a 5600 k PC light that alternates with my radions. My fusion also has about 3 inches of sand bed in it with some rock rubble. My return pumps which I plan on changing in the near future is a mag 18 and a meg 12 the pumps lift the water about 8 feet high in my opinion not enough circulation.my skimmer is a etss 1000 with an iwaki pump. I use a hrs Gfo and carbon reactor. My fish are as follows one blonde naso about 8 to 10 inches one powder blue about 6 inches one hippo tang about 4 to5 inches. 1 regal angelabout 5 inches one flame angel about 3 inches One fox face about 5 inches five Layratail Anthia's One blue throat trigger about 3 inches 1Degardini tang 1 mandarin One yellow tang and a pair of clown fish.
My question is I've been having a hard time keeping corals all of my SPS is dying or dead my LPS Die off almost like the tissue floats a round the tank. This Tank has been up and running for over a year I started to have this issue and my 220 gallon but didn't pay much attention to it because I knew I was upgrading to the 300 after a long time the only things that survived were my ricordia my Maxima clam and derasa Greenstar polyps a leather and some polyps I do not see fish nipping at my Corals. The coral seem to do well for about three months and then die off.
450-480 calcium 1400 magnesium 9.0 alk
Ammonia 0
Nitrate under 10

Phosphates 0 - .03
Ph Anywhere from 7.93 to 8.15
Tanks heat is at 78 steady and is controlled by an apex
Please help I'm ready to give up at this point

Ok lets start with this, what test kits are you using for

Nitrates
Phosphates
ALK, CAL and MAG.
Salinity

Is Temp probe calibrated?
Is PH probe calibrated?
What are you feeding?
What is your lighting schedule and what percentage are you running them at?
Are you skimming? if so what skimmer are you running?
Are you using RODI water?
Are you running Phosban and carbon in reactors?

A few questions to start it off :)

For salinity I am using a refractometer my salinity is at 1.025
My test kit for phosphates is Red Sea my test kit for calcium and alkalinity are also Red Sea and I use hanna checkersfor those also. My nitrate test kit is an API
Yes I am running phosban in the reactor. Yes I have a stage 5 bra RODI withall new cartridges.
Probes are calibrated once a month. And my temp probe is also backed up by a separate thermometer in the tank
Not sure about my lighting my good friend Andrew takes care of that.
My skimmer is a ETSS 1000 with a iwaki 100 pump. I feed my fish Misys and new life spectrum

Have you added any live rock from other established healthy tanks. So you can benefit from the bacteria that is needed in a successful reef tank?

Lighting % maybe to high. You need to do process of elimination.

Are you dosing anything?

I run the same tank as you do a 300gal DD 6 feet long 3 feet deep 27 inches high first thing I would look at is those lights I would first learn about them so I did not need a friend to take care of them for me and second I get a par meter and see how much or how little light is in the tank. I am assuming that all your water parameters are other wise good. coral growth always boils down to two things. light and water quality IMHO

Po4 Red Sea won't give you a good reading and def not the API for no3. How are you keeping your mag,alk and cal stable? A mp40 is a 300 gallon is probably not moving much water. Before you add any more gfo you need to know what your po4 is using a Hanna checker. What salt are you using? Are you dosing anything else?

The lights are the first thing I checked. ( I'm the friend that looks over the tank). I have ruled out everything except fish. We tried using red sea / Hanna/ and salifert test kits still no good. The tank has a decent amount of flow to it. From what I could see it was each head of Lps dying off one by one to. Lead me to believe its a fish nipping at it
