I tried call ESV company to confirm this but no lucky?

I Hope you get this on time, my family and I came down here to Manila,Philippines for a short vacation,unfortunately we were mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed all cash,credit card and mobile phone were stolen off us but luckily we still have our passports with us.

We've been to the Embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all the bad news is our flight will be leaving in less than 8-hrs from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills.

Please let me know if you can help and i need you to keep checking your email because it's the only i can reach you.

Wow. That attempt is almost as bad as the Nigerian Prince scam. It's even more sad that good hearted people fall for these types of scams far too often.

It's a very common scam. It's done over the phone as well. They call usually older people asking for money for a stranded grandson, etc, etc.

For those who do not know... when you send an email, at the low level, you can set the "From:" field manually, so you can actually send emails "as anyone" you want. No need to hack the actual email box, you only need to add whatever you want there.

For the non-programmers, it is just a function call ("instruction given to your computer") that looks like that:

sendEmail("From: [email protected]", "To: [email protected]", "Title: hello my friend", "Body: Please stop using snake oil in the aquarium where you are keeping my offspring").

So anyone can send an email as anyone, but usually those are taken care of easily by spam/junk filters.

ps: historical fun fact... it is a scam that was invented in Europe in the late 16th(!) century, known as the Spanish Prisoner scam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Prisoner
