Im in line to buy two 400w retro kits on RC. The ballasts are electric ballasts made by coralvue. Has anyone ever had these? I purchased coralvue lights 3 years ago and I did not like them. I quickly changed back to XM. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Leo

Im in the same boat as TIM (aside from the wattage) ,,,i have 175w coralvue ballast with 12kreeflux bulbs I have them for as long as i own my tank and knock on wood ,no problems .my tank is mainly lps and zoos with the exception of 4 sps .they are are doing very well .

If your are going fully sps i would probably go with different ballast ,the coralvue tends to make other bulb run yellow.JMO

I had 10k reeflux and they seemed to yellow for my taste. From what I hear they are suposed to be the whitest bulb out there. Leo I have my old 10k reeflux if you want to see the difference in the two bulbs on that ballast.....

So 10K XM bulbs would not run well on coralvue ballasts?

That i couldnt tell you ,i would ask Herman or Rich or Spykes tht question ,or maybe someone else can answer that for you

Thats funny ,i had the reeflux 10k on my tank before the 12ks ,and switched becuase the 10k was too too white ..

But i did try the Iwaskai 175w bulbs and they where just YELLOW ,go figure.

Basically if youre not going to use the reeflux 12k bulb which works the best withthe coralvue ballast<--(jmo) then go with a diff ballast if you didnt get the coralvue yet .

Lets say you want to change your bulb later down the line ,then with another ballast youll have of an opion

The whole thing is that Im in contact with a person that is selling 2 400W coralvue electric ballasts with reflectors, sockets, wiring and bulbs for $200. I think its a good deal but Im just not sure on the ballasts. Right now I have 2 250W ARO Electric ballasts running 10K XM bulbs. Im going to set up the 220 that I got from glipper69 so I figured I would go up in wattage. Either that or I could keep my 250's and get one 400 for the middle of the tank.
