So I went to collect this past week and found nothing but spot fin butterflies, a spiny burrfish and I kept a tiny northern puffer/blowfish. I did see a single (or thought I did) fleeting glimpse of a 4-eye butterfly but he got away, but aside from that nothing but spearing, blackfish and tautoug.

What ratio of spotfin to 4-eye butterflies did you find out there?
Also I read that Todd Gardner reports blue angelfish. Anyone know if they come into the shallows? What's its habitat, are they in the rocky areas or grassy?
Was at Oak beach today during low tide 1:45 PM, pretty bad numbers. There were 3 other sets of people with 20 or 30" nets so I consider it a full day of pulling. First net left early with only 1 butterfly and 2 bunker. Next net pulled in lots of local stuff, northern blowfish from 1/2" to 3" in size, occasional juvenile kingfish, blue fish and flounder. I pulled in 1 butterfly, a burrfish and a trumpet fish and the last set of guys who where pulling all day only had a few seahorses and a few butterflies.
Each pull of the 30 footer had maybe 1 or 2 butterflies max. All butterflies were the common spot fin ones.
I can only assume today was a bad day.
Bummer. I hope you have a better day next time. I've been preoccupied with work, so I haven't been able to get out much. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier, homegrown. I've never caught a angelfish before - I think you have to dive for them. The four-eyes are far less common than the spotfins. Keep trying though, you'll get one.
Homegrown, my daughter and I met you today, great meeting you. I saw someone referencing my elusive short bigeye before so maybe we will get lucky one day as I am desperate for one for my collection. Will let you know how the trumpetfish does!
