salt hardening in bucket??

Hello fellow reefers,


Quick question, has anyone out there every had the salt in an enclosed ,sealed bucket hardening to one solid piece? I am sure the salt is still fine, but it is a pain in the butt when you try to measure it in a cup for usage.

Any preventive measures against this from happening?

I know this is a relative unimportant issue, but I was just curious if anyone else had the same issues. thank you for looking.

This might sound stupid, but i put marshmellows in brown sugar to prevent the same thing that happens with salt. Not sure if it would help but its worth a shot

don't use brown sugar lmao. i usually get the box which comes with separate bags and ill rubber band the bag, not a fan of buckets.

Not telling him to use brown sugar....i use marshmellow to preven brown sugar from hardening, which is the same that happens to salt....telling him to throw some marshmellow on top of the salt.....

I should try this I'm having the same salt bucket problem. If anyone tries this update us!

How about a hammer to break it down?

put some dry rice in a stocking and put it in the open bucket to absorb moisture.

I also suggest the hammer/chisel method. Since its very labor intensive, I suggest using the big chunks and go do a large w/c with them

I just jabbed at it with screwdriver to get pieces that was manageable

I pour the salt in a garbage bag tie at the top and put it in the bucket.

I lay a towel over the bucket and then put the lid on top of the towel and something with some weight on top of the lid and it works perfectly for me!
