Ball valve getting difficult to turn

Due to calcium deposite, my ball valves are getting harder to turn. Should I try to clean it with vinegar or muriatic acid and silicone lubricant? Or just buy new ones?

I would try a vinegar bath first. You can always buy a new one if cleaning it does'nt work.

I think if you opened and closed them once in a while it would be harder for the calcium to build up on it.

If they aren't to difficult to remove, I would buy new ones. Then clean the old ones, if cleaning does the trick save them to swap out when the new ones need cleaning.

or why not go with gate valves instead of having more problems with ball valves ....

gate valves does not shut off the flow completely over time, it will also become hard to close too.

Best bet is to spend the extra and get quality valves to start with.
