Aquarium Fans

Hi everyone,

I just installed 3 Artic 5" x 5" fans in my canopy to cool the MiH lights (250 w X2). Problem is, the fans are really noisy. I was wondering if anyone knows of silent fans I could use?

from what ive seen and heard icecap fans are pretty quiet... ...

As a general rule larger fans at a lower rpm will move more air and be much quieter than a smaller fan at a higher rpm.

Thanks, Fritz. I tried that trick, bigger fans, lower speed, but with my cheap fans, the motor noise increased when I lowered the voltage!

Anyhow, I've decided to get 4" ice cap fans.

Does anyone have advice on whether I need 2 or 3?

My tank is 55g (14" x 48" x 24"), with 2 X MiH 250W.

2 sounds like it should be fine (you can always add the 3rd later if you feel you need it)
