Hi,

I have a fairly new tank (5 month old, 29G reboot of an old talk that was limping along with nothing for years) and was starting to build up a nice group of stomatella snails in the tank. I noticed over the last few days that they have disappeared. All I have in the tank are a new green mandarin, some nassarius snails, a sexy shrimp, 3-4 medium sized hermits and two peppermint shrimp. The peppermint shrimp are a recent addition. I throw in some flake food and crumbled spirulina disks every couple of days. My first thought was that it was hermits, but I've had those for a while and they seem to have co-existed without problems. I know the peppermints can sometimes be opportunistic but would not have thought it would be them (tho they are the new edition).

Your thoughts?

Hi, welcome to the site

Peppermint shrimps and hermits will both eat snails, depends on how much food is around. Usually if there's enough to eat they get left alone, but if there's no available empty shells for a hermit to grow into they could get it, and sometimes you get a peppermint that just likes to eat snails..
