Bio Seal Silicone

Just As I Was About To Start Siliconing My Baffles I Decided To Read The Instructions On The Bottle..i Know Against Man Law.. But It Said That It Is Not For Use In Aquariums....my Friend Used The Same Silicone And Already Set It Up...what Should He Do...how Bad And What Are The Effects Of This Silicone To The Tank.....

Is BIo Seal the name of the product?. If it's 100% Silicone you're OK. It can't be any of that kitchen & bath stuff, they have algaecide in it. By the way, when did they start putting instructions on silicone?

It's GE II silicone from HD or Lowes or any other hardware.

This is the stuff for Door and Windows and used to be made without the "bioseal" in it. For some reason they started putting this into it and I know I heard and read that this stuff was no longer safe for aquariums.

Id be worried just cause the tube says it isnt safe and I'd wanna go with something from a pet shop, like some AGA silicone or somethin

Ive used GE I and II for countless projects, as kris said as long as its its window and door and doesnt have "bioseal" your golden.

From my vist to HD, about 2-3 weeks ago, all GE I and II now contains "bioseal". If you find an old tube, without the "bioseal", just check the expired date as it mayn't be good anymore.

Damn....so what does my friend do, throw out the sump he made and start over....well I have a GE II Silicone Windows and Doors w Bio Seal 4 sale....$3 unopened.....if anyone wants...hehehe

He'll have to remove all the silicone, and clean the tank & baffles with Alcohol. Then get 100% silicone, without the BioSeal or any anti-mildew, and reseal everything again.
