Hello mr i have recently set up a 30g rimless tank not rr. I was planning on staying with lps corals. Ut have changed my mind. I want to go above my comfort zone and give sps a shot. I need to know what would be my best way about doing this. Ive never dosed my tanks before other than part a part b. If someone could point me in the right direction thatd be awesome.

This is my setup hard to see. I have an ai hydra 26hd, canister filter, and a nano powerhead.

Before you worry about the inside of your tank you really should 'skin' your stand. The way it is there is serious potential for it to rack and fail. Skinning it will sure it up and you can move on to sps.

If you are going to be keeping sps i would not use that canister filter. If you cant get a sump i would try a hang on skimmer. Your best bet is to buy some type of dosing pump. If you have an apex you can go with a dos but if you don't there are some good stand alone dosing pumps. How often do you do water changes? You shouldn't need to dose for a while if you are doing weekly water changes.

If your going SPS you will most likely need to look into some phosphate removal options (phosphate removal media for your current canister filter, macro algae, media reactors and etc)

Since your running a 30g with no sump, then an ATO (auto top off) will also help remove the salinity swings for your SPS. Def worth looking into. [helps remove a testing item when your SPS is not doing well and you can't figure it out :smash:]

I would also recommend that you refrain from dosing anything until your coral load has increased significantly. Water changes weekly or bi-weekly should be enough to supplement a good amount of SPS frags. Plus, dosing automatically or manually requires quite a lot of water testing

...and just remember... Nothing good happens quickly in a reef tank!

Get a sump, and an auto top off. Makes thing much more stable and easier to dose. A skimmer will cut down on the amount of water changes you need to do big time. And if you get a fuge and/or a algae scrubber big enough you might never need a water change. I'm going on 15 mos without a water change. Nitrates under 5, phosphates .04
Also, a fuge not only removes nitrate and phosphate but gives pods a place to breed away from fish that eat them so you have a constant supply, as well as keeps your ph from swinging around if the you run the fuge light at night when the tank light goes off.
Not to mention the added water volume
In a saltwater tank most of the proteins rise to the surface. That's why on marine tanks you see surface overflows that feeds the sump/filter. Something your canister doesn't do.
