So, I got a Regal Angel (was not a Red Sea) this Sunday from a store in NJ, I don?t want to mention the name because It is a SUPER GOOD STORE OVER ALL!!!
It was on the medium/large size, well by Monday he was gone! I?m not a rookie I have been in this hobby for almost 9 years now and I do have experience with difficult fish, mandarins, copperband, and powder blue, even if he was bullied by some of my fish, I don?t think that I fish from bulling will die within 24 hours, the only thing I?m thinking is maybe it would have been better to put him in the sump for some time but again I don?t think it?s the bulling that killed him. Anyways I?m looking for some advice because I?m looking to get another one, and is there a store in NJ/NY that has a good rep with Regal Angels.
And I want to be clear that the store I got it from is grate and I will still buy their!!!
just thinking different wholesale vendors, better specimen on some fish???

Thanks.

I don't know any place with a good rep on regal angels. They are sensitive shy fish. I take it you don't QT your fish since you said your fish were bullying it. Depending on the care or shape the fish is in bullying could definitely kill your fish within 24 hours. I've seen fish bully fish to death within hours. Definitely not a good thing for a regal

Would speculate that it was either ammonia, salinity or ph problem from the journey into your tank. Ph can happen fast, but ammonia and salinity can take a day or 3 to kill em. Another reason why slow acclimation can sometimes do more harm than good.
Check the salinity at your lfs, and insist on a big bag with lots water for transport. If salinity at lfs is low, don't raise it for the fish more than 2 points per day.
As you stated regals can be sensitive, but normally if they're eating when you get them they should survive, unless they're getting bullied big time

If I do get another one I will try to get a small one, and it will go into my refugim first, I have done this with 2 mandarins 4 years ago, I got them for a good price because they looked like they were about to die because of not eating (not having a source of food) I still have them.

Depending on where it was collected it could have been caught with cyanide. I've seen fish that looked otherwise healthy all of a sudden just die and in those cases it was most likely cyanide that caused it.

Cyanide is widely not used anymore, and what usually happens is it's fine for months even years, then bam, dead.
The new cheaper and more widely used thing is blast fishing.

Regal Angel's are difficult to get eating, I've had decent luck with juvi gray belly Philippine Regals. IMO Regals are one of the most difficult angelfish no matter where it comes from. Randy made a good suggestion get one that has been conditioned and eating

Possibly from being a sensitive fish and acclimating from a low salinity that stores typically keep their fish in (1.015-1.020) to 1.025.

I'd just lurk the marketplace here and wait until someone is selling one they've had for a bit.

regals are super sensitive but I also can't resist them
I've had good and bad luck. one i had didn't eat no matter what i fed him. But i usually put them into qt not just to avoid disease but also condition them to eat better. the pair i have just went into display after 6 weeks in qt. the last 3 weeks were just getting them to eat well.
I usually do hyposaline and 2 courses of prazipro.
after they have the qt to themselves they usually will get more aggressive at eating.
I have one that eats from my hands anything i put in the tank.
he competes with my hippo yellow tang and wrasses
good luck
there is also a good threat on rc i think its called regal primer

@byu-did you buy yours as a pair or separately?
I've had decent luck with regals. More positive then negative. I do want a orange regal and a yellow belly regal. Plan on doing the same. Leaving them in QT tank until there eating aggressively. It will more than likely change once I put into display tank because of there shyness
