Anybody know a moving company that handles tank moves? I'm moving a 225g tank from my garage to the living room and I need movers that have suction cups. The stand has panels that stick up 2 inches from the base of the stand so suction cups are needed for the move. I live in Ridgefield, CT.

Thanks,

Keith

you can try Flatrate - they moved my apartment for me this weekend, and even though I did not have them move my tank they were amazing! Very professional, and you don't get charged by the hour (hence flat rate) and the price is given to you beforehand by an estimator who will come to your place for free.

Not sure if they do Ct- but you can always give them a call.

it might be worth your while to just buy a couple of cases of beer and a couple of pairs of suction cups. if you do the math it might be cheaper than hiring a mover. OR see if there is someone on the board who has some. I know a few members run stores or tank maintenance businesses they might b willing to lend you the suckers

Just a note on Flatrate....

I moved to my new apartment about 9 months ago and looked into using Flatrate... well, to say the least, the process seemed similar to buying a new car...

They gave me a "flat rate" of near $2800 to move my 1-bedroom from the West Village to Tribeca - maybe 15 blocks!!!!

I bauked at the idea of paying that much, but I also got the impression that because I was moving to "Tribeca" the guy though he could screw me over....

In any case, as the weeks went by closer to my move date, the price started to go lower and lower... first to 2400... then 2100... then 1800... and by the DAY BEFORE THE MOVE to about 1400... all I could think was that their "flat rate" put a lot of $$$ in their pockets...

I ended up using another moving company....

That's just my experience, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't try to make extra cash by giving people high and uncompetitive rates at first and then providing "discounts" as time goes on....

Regardless, I would go out and buy some suction cups and beer and get some friends to help you.... especially if it is just an in-house move...
