I run my carbon through a daisy chain TLF reactor. The first reactor is carbon and the second reactor is rowaphos. The flow at the rowa is barely enough to turn the top 1/4 over. However i am wondering if that's having any effect on the carbon.

Should i separate the reactors and feed more water through the carbon one?

Herm, nice shitznit, i kinda figured it was a deltec? How much commision do you get? :scratchch :kidding:

I like my media in the reactors to tumble personally. Not like a rave but not ballroom dancing either. Somewhere like a 70s disco party. Then youre good :D Did that make sense??? Yes? then youre weird. No? I cant help you :D

Im not a big fan of daisy chaining things. Sure it eliminates a pump and it may look nice but i like "ideal" flow. There is no point in a reactor if the media is just going to sit there without tumbling. Then you might as well stuff it in bags and stick it in the baffles. Also with some particles tumbling and other just sitting there, some will get depleted before others. Wasted IMO.

I use Rowacarbon but would be equally happy using ESV carbon. Not the cheapest around but it gives me peace of mind. House of Fish is a vendor on our site and they are an ESV distrubutor.

Herman, sweet looking reactor. I also run a high volume reactor with carbon, 24/7. I change it out monthly. Years ago I ran a media bag in my sump directly under my skimmer discharge. As detritus collected on the media bag (relatively quickly) I found that the effectiveness of the carbon dropped off the charts real quick (within days of putting it there).

I believe the tumbling action of the carbon is what keeps it 'regenerated' and most effective.

BTW, thanks Herm.

Ok, thanks herm for the advice, :biglaugh: . It's not a matter of saving on the pump, i just wanted to keep things simpler. I have both pumps on hand. I'll be breaking the chain so that the carbon can tumble somewhat. The rowa will stay as is because it's already tumbling as suggested.

Oh yeah Russ, it's only like the top 1/4". It's very dialed down. That's why i am separating them because to keep that flow for the rowa, it's not enough for the carbon.
