I just purchased an open brain coral at my LFS. The coral appears to have been stung, the ridges on one end are dark and appear to have no tissue. Will this coral still survive? Will it shed this dead area, or regenerate it? Also, I was told that if I broke off the skeleton in the dead area it would survive, if so, how do I do this without hurting the coral more?
Thank you for any help!

Some people have had success doing the following: feed it, feed it, feed it, it may be necessary to isolate it when feeding, some people take a litre bottle and cut it down then place it over the coral and use a turkey baster to squirt the food in so they can eat uninterrupted. Also you want to protect it from any shrimp that you might have, peppermints especially seem to like to munch on these when there wounded. I never heard anyone mention breaking off the damaged part, so I wouldn't go that route, but I'm an amatuer. Good luck

Stacey-
I've have a wounded open brain coral. My advice is to place it someplace with low current and medium-low light. If it accepts food, great! Keep a close eye on it. If it starts to recede, then give us a hollar again.
