I saw a beautiful Dragon Wrasse at my LFS this weekend but before I buy, I'd like to ask you guys for advice.

I have a 225gal setup for almost a year and I'm trying to go reef. 200lbs live rock, 4" DSB, and only 4 fish (1 yellow tang, 1 pj cardinal, and 2 green chromis)

Will the Dragon Wrasse destroy my DSB? Will it eat polyps or coral?

Any info appreciated before purchase.
Thanks
Bruce

The dragon wrasse is a beautiful and inviting fish. There are a few issues to consider.

The "dragon" look is only in it's juvenile stage. It grows up to be rather unattractive.

It is a rock mover. It makes an awful mess of sand beds and will eat a lot of your sand bed fauna. It can be aggressive.

I had one and he was my favorite fish. I also had to get rid of him because all of the problems he caused. My main problem is he would take the food from my anemone. He would also dig under large rocks and eventually they would move and it would make a mess. I would have to replace rocks all over the place. I did not care much about him moving the smaller rocks.

Yep, one of their other common names is Rock mover. If oyu don't like where the rocks are, just wait, he will rearrange your tank for you

The baby dragon wrasse at my LFS is how I first became interested in wrasses. He is an incredible looking fish. But yes, he does grow up to be quite unattractive. I think just plain black or brown. And I found him called rock mover, so I moved on.

Check out all the different fairy wrasses. Do a search on wrasses with my member #. Leonard wrote some excellent responses.
