When I set up my 50G the first time, I used a Prizm skimmer. I never got it regulated in 6 months and it consistently quit on me and had to be removed and worked on and recalibrated. I chose to buy an AquaC Remora for my tank this go-round and although I've only been using it for a day, I alreayd like it much, much better. It is very easy to install and the cup is easy to remove and adjust. I highly recommend it. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but I bought it from Inland Reef.

I just checked their site and they have them for 163.95 and that includes shipping.

On my 40 reef I was using a prizm. For a year it appeared to do its job well. Then I added a CPR Backbak onto the same aquarium and continued to use both skimmers. The CPR totally took over and did all the work. Since adding the CPR, the Prizm never collected anything in its collection cup. So with my experiment, I would say the CPR is better than the Prizm.

I'm currently running a Prizm on a 29g Reef that has been up for a little more than 3 months now. In the beginning I got great skimming from it, had to empty it at least once a week during the cycling period. Lately I've had to adjust it daily because it doesn't seem to be pulling anything and a recent water parameter check showed that my ammonia and nitrate levels were up. I'm planning to upgrade before things get any worse.

I'm another convert who tried the prizm then saw the light and purchased an aqua C remora pro. You really can't even talk about these 2 skimmers in the same sentence. I know the remora's are more money, but the difference in the products is worlds apart.

I'm with Brian on this one... as I did the exact same thing.

Also... someone said that you could run a prizm on a 75 gallon tank. I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. I have a 75 gallon tank, it does not skim well enough for a tank of that size. My remora positively blows the doors off that skimmer. It skims more crud and less water.

Never again will I run a prizm on a system larger than 30 gallons. No way. If you must have a hang on, get the remora or the remora pro. If you're going in sump on a skimmer, get a euro reef. Don't even bother looking at anything else, I think it would be a waste of money.

Don't skimp on your skimmer, it's going to be one of the most important pieces of equipment on your tank.

My .02 cents.

Had two of them left over from when we initially stocked em, couldn't give the damn things away. LOL can't believe this thread was resurrected, but anyway I had the head wienie of Red Sea (forget his name) tell me to my face that he'd have no qualms running this skimmer on his 125. Think Matt and I just about bit our tongues off not responding to that heh. This skimmer can't skim a shot glass IMO - let alone the 100 gallon rating from Red Sea.

Hehe, we got in some of red sea's goofy marine aquaria books a few weeks back, and after reading through them I taped on a big list of reasons why we weren't going to stock them. Unfortunately (hehe, or maybe fortunately...) I forgot what I had written and the NE red sea rep. was interested why I thought the books were no good. He read the last line "features only red sea's *crappy* products" aloud, laughed a little, then got quiet and left.

So they aren't free? At least SeaScope is given away by Aquarium Systems

Howdy,

I too found it amazing this post was pulled back in. I was reading through it to pan the prism, and found my first post doing just that. I couldn't believe it had been 2 years since I had dumped my prism for an aquaC remora pro.

Cool thing is, the AquaC is still kicking butt and on a much larger tank. Time flies when you're not buyng new skimmers :D

Scott.
