My paddlefin wrasse and niger trigger co-existed peacefully for over a year, but the wrasse has been acting like a thug lately. Last month I divided the tank with egg-crate for a couple weeks, then removed the egg-crate, only to have the wrasse act like his murderous self after a few days (strangely, the wrasse doesn't bother the other fish).

Anyway, I've now removed the wrasse to the sump. How long should I wait before I re-introduce him? A few days, weeks, a month or more?

Thanks.

Seriously,

Trade him away. You can't teach a fishes to be docile. No amount of incarceration time will change the fishes' behavior (they have not conditional learning ability).

As responsible hobbyist, killing something one purchases is irresponsible. There are lots of people who could take a fish, etc. They may not be a person, but they are alive. It bothers me that people treat hobbies dealing with live things so lightly. People tend to waste life and other earth resources way too often.

If you are going to just kill something that someone would actually buy or want, send it to me and I'll find it a proper home. OR give me a little bit of time, then you could ship directly to a new home.

He needs a new water-filled box to call home. Either back to the LFS, you setup a new home or another hobbiest's setup.

While I did not see a smile icon, I think Jerry was just teasing.

Please give him away or return him to the LFS. They even may give you something in your tank in exchange.
Thank you.

Alright...
It's time for me to get on my little ten gallon tank soap box and rant. This is exactly why one little tiny part of me thinks that ALL fish, invert's., coral, etc. Should be banned from import. A very little part of me, mind you.

I participate in this hobby too (so I try not to be a hipocrit) but that kind of thinking, be it incarceration or killing the animal are deplorable. I'll relate a little story. I was in my LFS on Thursday looking for a decent calcium test kit when I heard a small child nagging her mother about getting a sea slug. (Sea hare I think, not important). When the LFS worker pointed out that they (the slugs) have certian needs, as well as being doomed to live with whatever incompatible tank mate they had purchased earlier, the daughter replied. "But I don't care, he's pretty." But instead of having some common sense or compassion for the animal, as primitave as it may be. She (the mother) indulged the little impish whinner and purchased the creature.

This kind of crap (pardon) inscenses me (spelled that wrong). The slug is going to die.

Quite frankly anyone who treats this hobby, pastime, whatever, with that sort of (I don't know) stupidity, maybe, makes me sick. Give your fish and entire set up to someone with a bit more, (once again, for lack of words and care for the few question poster's feelings) BRAINS. Grow Up...

Supplemental: Whether this meets the definition of flaming or not, who knows. I honestly don't care. This was not nesseccarly directed towards the original question posted by Bugmuncher. But EVERYONE who gives groups like GreenPeace, Sierra Club (Whoever happens to be trying to ban inports) a reason to do exactly that.

I am spraying for ants and spiders this afternoon. I have been painting my house and have numerous bites from the damn things. Quillen, I don't know for sure how to ship a bucket of earth full of ants, but I am willing to try if you want to find them a new home....or is it just cute fishes that you worry about????

I think the point quillen was trying to make is that if you purchase a creature then you have a responisbility to care for it ans should not just kill it when you no longer feel like keeping it.

One of the most difficult things to do on a BB is to understand the reason one choses the words they use.

Example When I say my murdering cichlid is spending a lifetime in incarsaratin = he has a full 15 gallon tank completely set up for him. Because he will kill any fish introduce, his personality is such that he must live a lifetime alone. It is not a matter of a large enough territory as he once resided in a 90 gallon and he was the undisputed Alpha fish and he still found it necessary to harrass and kill.

Some people have a dry sense of humor and some really do not care. It really is hard to tell the difference sometimes but I do not disagree with your point.

Once again.
Perhaps you and anyone else missed the last part of my message. Which explained that the post was directed at anyone, who happened to resemble, or, rather share a similar pattern of thinking with the people I gave an example of at my local fish store. People who purchase animals blindly, without regard to its well being. (Not to say that animals expected to get along who dont are purchased blindly. Its a crap shoot. I understand.)

About the ants. Well. Hmmm. Thats a difficult one to respond to. First I could say that they were here first, but thats poor argument. Perhaps I could really say is "you" (whomever is spraying) could be considered protecting your territory from another creature. Since we are all animals in some sense then maybe when we stake out a living space, either by forcing another creature away, we are exercising general animal behavior. Programmed over millions of years. In other words, attacking my argument with the idea that ridding YOUR territory, of bothersome, perhaps dangerous creatures is a bit sophmoric.

Now, what I mean is there Might be slight difference between pest irradication and removing an animal from its natural habitat, placing it in a glass box with man made water. And, when that animal does not behave according to the way we say it should locking it in a damn box smaller than the previous. Does that now, with clarification, sound at all similar to your "dry humor" of shipping ants.

Listen. Im not trying to stage a protest against protecting your home from insect invasion. I do the same. The humor expressed in this board is also not my target for the previous post. Mostly it was over anger of the insidious women and her child in the fish store, and anyone like them. This post may not even belong here, however I was able to express my opinion and thats all I wanted to acomplish.

For now.

I think a jury with his peers would do the trick. I don't think you have have the niger trigger on the jury since I am sure he will be a star witness and probably the main plaintiff in the upcoming trial.

Now hearing the case of niger trigger, et al Vs Mr Paddlefin Wrasse.....All Rise

banish him to a new setup or trade him in to the LFS for credit or another fish.

Bleh.

I'm not qualified to authoritatively say what living creatures deserve to live or die. I'm sorry anything dies.
