I got my tank and some other hardware at elmers. I usually get my livestock from Jeff's online.

Yes your right it's a very small area with almost no choice for livestock, I'm very greatful for the internet or I would not have a tank!

I used to live in Turtle Creek a few years back when I was attending college. I love that area.

I live in Butler. Use to buy everything at Poseidon Living Treasure in Cheswick, until he moved to Greentree. Jason was a nice guy.
I've never bought anything at Elmers, never saw anything there that I liked.

The Seahorse has nicer stuff than Elmers, but even more expensive.

Hi all,

I live in Sharon. I highly recommend poseidons. Nice people nice animals. Fair prices. Atlantis often has great animals but sometimes a little attitude. Wet Pets also gets nice stuff, but a little pricey and a little too "factory" for my taste.

Anyway, ibanez where are you? There are a couple of other reefers in my area. I am guessing you are a guitar player too?

Also, as the newsletter editor, I would like to invite you all to attend a PMAS (Pittsburgh Marine Aquarium Society) meeting. Check out www.pmas.org for info, or e-mail me your address and I will send you a newsletter. Julys meeting features Dr. Beverly Dixon who is going to speak on fish disease and treatment. It will be a condensed version of the same info from the WMC.

It's nice to see some other W. Pennslvanians on the board!

Just took the kids to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium a couple of weeks ago. Wish I could afford tanks like those!

Yuns are making me homesick. I grew up in Franklin and went to college at Slippery Rock U.

I get back there once or twice a year.

Jaydse,

Yes, I know Kirby! I do like Iggys alot, but coming from the Northwest, and they are south east, it is a long way for me.

Poseidons was Anthony's (I know him well also). He sold it to Jason (AKA Stu) who moved it to greentree when the building they were in was condemmend (bummer!).

Anyway, you are all invited and encouraged to come to a PMAS meeting. In the last few months, you already missed Bob Fenner and Steve Tyree. We are hoping to have Dr. Ron soon (Like him or not, it sould be and informative meeting).

I love IGGY's the guys there are great. They are pretty big on corals and have alot of frags. Their fish selection is decent. I presonally liked them better than Elmer's but thats me.

So far so good on all my orders from Jeffs. Everything I've ordered is still with me. But the shipping is killer. Still cheaper than the joke they call a fish store at the mall.

Hey guys I just decided that I want to reduce the amount of rock in my tank, and since you are all (or most of you) pretty close I figured I would check here first.

I am going to sell aprox 45lbs of fiji. I am asking $90 or $2/lb.

Let me know if your interested because it would save me and the buyer quite a bit less hassel if I could deliver or it could be picked up.

From Patton Pa.

I have a very nice yellow tang that I would consider selling if anyone is interested. You must have a larger tank than I do. I only have a 38 gallon with a 15 gallon sump and I feel guilty that he is in there.

It is hard to find what I am looking for around here.

Here is my opinion about the dealers around here, if anyone cares. My observations after six years of keeping marine fish...

Uncle Ben's in Duncansville is pretty lame. The lady acts like she knows more about marine fish than she does. I recently walked in and saw a butterfly fish in the same tank as damsels. I rarely visit the place since seeing that. Her prices are fair. I have seen diseased looking fish in her tanks.

K&T Pet Pals at Galaria Mall in Johnstown gets good live stock (when he gets it the owner is away a lot and he is the guy who gets the fish). Tanks are emtpy often.

I like this guy. He will actually tell you if he doesn't think you should buy a certain fish, based on compatibility. He once told me not to buy a fish because he didn't think it was doing very well. He will let you see the fish eat before you buy it. He will hold fish for you also.

When he gets his fish, he travels to Pittsburgh personally and picks his livestock up from airport. Fish that should be cheaper can be pricy but I have observed very good prices for the more exotic fish that are nomally more expensive. I have bought very nice fish at K&T's. Right now I have a Singapore angel that has been in my tank for over a year and is doing very well.

Only problem with this place is that it goes through dry spells without any fish at all.

Pierce's Pet Place in Indiana PA. Fair prices on fish and the staff is knowlegable. Only complaint is that the holding tanks are dirty. I have walked in there and seen dead fish laying in the tanks.

However, I have two fish from this place and they are very healthy and I bought my live rock there. I have lots of thick coraline on my rock that is doing very well.

There is a place in Somerset. Tanks are clean, prices are high.

Elmers is quite a haul for me but I bought a Jawfish there last weekend. I have visited and bought fish there occasionally. I don't like the looks of their tanks but I think they move fish so fast that it doesn't matter.

I was impressed with the tanks at Pet World which is across the street from Elmers. The water was very clean.

I would like to learn about other places in my area worth traveling to.

I order most of my dry goods through That Pet Place. Prices are very good and delivery is fast. Never tried ordering livestock.
