FYI: (Copy and paste of old message)

The 29th of September is the next W.A.M.A.S. meeting. It will be held at the Reef Tank in Vienna, Virginia 7:00pm
( directions can be found at http://www.reefstore.com ). Both Mike and Grim will be speaking to the
group.
Mike will address various issues concerning their operation (shipping, livestock, collection etc) and Grim will
discuss DIY and working with acrylic.

We will have food and some drinks provided and ask that attendees bring other snacks to help out (email
me with the items you intend to bring so we know what the club needs to provide)

Membership for the last two quarters of the year is 10$ or 6$ entrance fee at the door for nonmembers.
There will be a raffle with various prizes, some donated by TRT and some donated by members, and a frag
trading session.

Please come out and join us for the next Washington Area Marine Aquarist Society meeting.

The location is actually in Fairfax, near Burke off of Guinea road on a small warehouse area.

I'd love to make it, but have a parents event at my son's school Saturday evening. If I can make it I'd like to bring some nice Ultra Maxima and Super Crocea clams and some really nice A. millepora like Fluorescent Green tip and Pink with Fluorescent Yellow tips, etc. Also some extra nice Staghorns. We'll see if I can talk my wife into letting me get away. If not, I'll hopefully be able to make the next meeting.

Both Mike and Grimm thought it might be a bit of a conflict of interest to have Dr. Mac there. I hope he will able to make the subsequent meetings though. Please check the web site regularly, as we will be adding our long-term schedule as well as details regarding the next meeting.

I doubt that the folks at TRT see Dr. Mac as a threat to their livelyhood. The DC Metro area is big enough for both of them.

As far as having meetings at the store, I think it's a great idea. Now if you said it would be at PetSmart, that would be another story. The TRT guys are into propagation and cater to real hobbyists. Heck, they don't seem to minds if you just hang-out and ask questions. There's always helpful people there who got into the business because they are reefaholics themselves.

When I visit the place on busy days, I can barely tell the employees from the customers from the groupies.

Thanks to TRT for letting us use your space for the meeting and letting me stare into your tanks and ask questions.

Pez,

How is there a conflict of interest with Dr. Mac being there (as a member) versus those that will be there selling (i.e., trading for cash) their coral frags, live sand, etc.? As a member of WAMAS, he should be more than welcome and if he brings stuff to trade (whether its for animals or cash), it shouldn't be a problem either.

Sounds like a conflict of interest in having the meeting at the store...don't think I'll be attending.
