The more I read on this and other forums, I realize that their are few absolutes in this hobby. Some things work great for some people, and fail miserably for others.

For example, my 29g reef never, never ran better then when I ran my wet/dry with skimmer... I'm still recovering from my fuge disaster. My wife is kind enough to remind me quite often, "Told ya soo. If it aint broken, don't fix it!", "when are my little plants going to look better?" she has claimed my Alveopora. I'm starting to wonder if I own anything in that house... :? Is anything sacred? I'm kiding she'll kill me if she read this post. Anyways, I'm still positive that my tank will run better with the fuge, but I'm sure it will take some time.

Lunchbucket: Maybe it does work better for ya, maybe your not on crack after all

To sum up: IMO, If it works well for you, leave it be !

heh.. once in a while every 6 months or so maybe once a year I take mine to the car wash "all of them" and blast the suckers. I also will soak the becketts in vinigar to clean out any deposits. I clean mine so I can see how to set it..

After about a year I can't see the foam/water line and it makes it a PITA to adjust. Other than that I see no reason to clean one. If it works and your tanks do grat.. why screw with it!

Hell after a tank is older they are not that important anyway unless you have a bio load change.

Hmm.. I've always cleaned mine twice a week or so and I get foam an hour later. Anyone else on the non crack smoking, uncut crystal meth using side??

My beckett skimmer works better after being cleaned. I use a baby bottle brush to break up the gunk, and spray it down with tap water to rinse. Warm water works fine for me, no need to be to hot.

Don't foget to clean your drain hole and drain line from time to time. Crap builds up in that as well. Once a month I clean out the beckett.

Only my collection cup gets dirty. Riser tube/reaction area swirls water in my skimmer design and doesn't get dirty.

Skimmer is foaming again in about 5 minutes. Needs to be cleaned every 2 to 3 days.

I clean both of my EV skimmers once a week, by just wiping the main tube out with clean paper towels. The cup I take off and use a brush and hot water. Works great for me been doing it this way for over a year.
