Ok I am planning on getting a 220. Currently I have a nicely stocked 75. Here is a thought, but I am unsure what would happen. If I get the 220 add everything I have from the 75, but don't upgrade the equipment right away. The turnover on the tank would be very low for a 220. I have a Mag 7 on the 75 which is ok for it. I know it is way too low for a 220, but if I am not adding more live stock yet will it work? If the equipment I have on the 75 works on it and all I am doing is really putting more water to the mix right now I should be ok, I think.
Or I could get the new pump and increase the flow on it, but the skimmer upgrade will be a couple months down the road. Should I just wait on the whole thing or will having a small skimmer be ok since the amount of bio load isn't going up.
The final option I have would be to add the few cheap skimmers I have and have several small skimmer on it till the upgrade goes through. I could put a sea clone, vis-jet, bubble up, along with the one that is in sump.
I had planned on doing it all in one swift blow, but the wife has other ideas for our cash, so this is going to be more piece-mill than I thought.

I would set the 220 W/ minimal circulation and find a decent skimmer. Add the sand and let the tank cycle before you move anything over. IMO there is no way to upgrade the tank w/out a serious cycle. Your best bet is to run both for a while. Then add any additional LR and let that cycle too. This will let you get uncured LR which is cheaper and better in the long run.
