Just curious, I got one of these yesterday from an on-line order. How long can I expect to wait before it opens up??

Thanks,
Michelle

Great choice for a coral. This is one of the most hardy corals in my tank.

This coral will extend its tentacles any time you feed the tank, day or night. Just give it 5 to 10 minutes. I usually feed my fish first, that gives the coral lots of time to open.

Caulastrea can be fed larger chunks of food. I give mine what ever I am feeding the fish.

Enjoy!

As of today, the heads were still retracted into the skeleton. They plump up at night and put out the tenticles, but nothing during the day.

I saw it last night, it was coming out. It had these tenticle things, pretty cool. But, will I not see it out at all during the light hours?

You'll most likely not see the tenticles during the light period, but the heads should be full and plump..... Very cool coral, Ive had mine for over a year, just make sure to feed the tank some kind of phytoplankton...

dt's is a type of filter-feeding food-phytoplankton; I haven't seen it around locally for a while, most places carry kent stuff--phytoplex and microvert.

I direct feed mine 5 times a week. If I skip 2 days they lood sunken during the day. I feed a mix of brine and mysis shrimp in selcon. I have had alost all the heads split since I recieved it 2 months ago.

The big difference between DT's and Kent or the likes is quality (and hence price.) The DT's is live and concentrated while most other brands are made up of dead phyto amongst other things. DT's will also have one cell while the others seem to "lump" together and one could imagine that it is harder to capture the "clumps" than it would be individual cells. Here are some links where there are pictures uner the microscope of the different kinds of food.12
