I have a T. Maxima clam situated on a rock that has a slight natural impression in it. The clam has been attached to the rock for a few months. This evening I noticed that there is a small hole in the rock and the clam's byssal gland is hanging through it. The hole must be small as I didn't pay any attention to it when I placed the clam. Does this mean my clam is no longer attached? I haven't attempted to move it, for fear of detaching the byssal gland entirely. Could the byssal gland still be attached to inside the hole? Is this going to cause my clam to die? Any advice on what I should/can do?
