I'm looking to purchase a few books. The books I have right now are The New Marine Aquarium (2001) by Michael Paletta and Marine Fishes and Invertebrates in Your Own Home by Cliff Emmens (1988). This last one was bought quite a while ago. I had a 10gal seahorse tank about 7 to 10 years ago.

Any books that worked well for you I am interested in. I'll be starting off with a FOWLR tank and work my way up to a reef tank.

I have a 65gal tank that I will be starting up in the next few months (hopefully).

The marine aquarium reference and the marine aquarium handbook. Both of them by Martin Moe. Search Amazon for books written by martin a moe... Good luck and have fun. I really enjoy my FOWLR.

The Reef Aquarium Volume One by Julian Sprung and J.C Delbeck is a must. Volume two is very good also, especially if you like anemones and soft corals. Volume one is my bible.

There is another book out the by John Tullock that I bought when I first startedd. I don't have it anymore but it was called something like " simplified approaches to reef aquariums". Or something like that. This is a good book that would encourage a newbie that he or she could keep a reef. It will give you confiidence that reef keeping is not rocket science. It's not. This book has simple step by step instructions on how to set up a reef. I gave my copy of this book to a friend that was considering a reef. He is a reefer now!

Good luck.

Here's a few more....
The Coral Reef Aquarium by Ron Shimek - a distilled but informative and helpful volume from set up to maintenance

Natural Reef Aquariums by John Tullock - a larger volume that gets into a bit more detail. There will be some differences of opinion between the two. Good food for thought and further questions/discussion.

If you do eventually go reef, then well in advance of that move you must get hold of Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals. Comprehensive and very helpful. A good read and an invaluable reference. It will save you money in lost livestock if you read and heed before deciding and purchasing corals.

regards,
rw

Sice you will be focusing on fish to start, probably the best fish book would be Scott micheals book 500 marine fish. It gives habitat, food, size and recommended aquarium size. Excellent book. The Moe books are somewhat dated, but I understand he is coming out with an updated version. Tullock has a good book on basics as reefworm said. It will also give you some ideas on what area/kind of tank you may like to keep.
