I'm getting back into reef keeping after about 12 years or so, and Dick was kind enough to recommend a couple books earlier today. Can anyone tell me the best magazine out there devoted to reef keeping?
Thanks...Rich
(BTW...I'm an amature astronomer, and have always found the best advice and nicest people on the astronomy forums. And from what I've been reading today, I think I'll find the same thing here. I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited!!!)

Uhhh, don't know him personally............

I don't read reef magazines in general, just surfing the web and reading the books.

The Marine Fish, and Reef Annual 2002 has some useful information, but about the only the only time I read magazines(other than Hustler

) is when I get roped into going to the mall with my wife. I duck into the book store and read them for free. Like Dhippo, I get most of my info from books and www.

BTW I don't post too very often, but welcome aboard!

Just thought I'd ask, but thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to tell my wife that the bearded clams are a necessary part of my ongoing research to get back into the hobby

I read the marine articles in Aquarium Fish Magazine, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium, and Tropical Fish Hobbyist every month. While none of these are totally dedicated to the marine hobby, I have found much useful and current information in them. Marine Fish Monthly is, obviously, dedicated to the marine scene but it isn't as readily available to me.

AF, TFH and FAMA are all good. Marine Fish Monthly is poorly written poorly executed and overal just poor, I would avoid that one.

Because of the tremendous lead times of the majority of these mags (AF is probably about ready to put the May issue to bed) few information there is truly groundbreaking or new. Another major problem IMO is that unless the byline is Toonen, Shimek, Borneman or a few other 'names' the information can be quite questionable. Lotsa people still writing articles about practices and methods which the advanced aquarists have long since moved away from.

The new E-Zine Advanced Aquarist looks very promising, only problem being that reading a screen is difficult, which means my printer will be getting a huge workout.

Aquarium Fish is the only one I still read, with the annual issues mentioned above particularly good. If you can, find the 2000 and 2001 annuals.
