I've had my BTA for a couple of months. Thursday I added a Domino Damsel, and Saturday I bought a Tomato Clown to go with the BTA. The clown immediately found the anemone and hasn't left since.

When the lights are on, I noticed that the Domino Damsel shows interest in the anemone/clown. Now that the lights have gone out, the damsel and clown are sharing the anemone! What's going on here? I'm totally confused.

Are you saying that the damsel is touching the anemones' tentacles? or is it just in the water flow, and avoiding the tentacles?

Damsels can also live in Anemones. Mainly when they are young for protection. The name damsel fish is due in part to living in a perilous location.. Anemones.

The anemone has closed up a bit since the lights went out. The damsel is rubbing below the tentacles and even appears to be swimming in and out of them. But it isn't wallowing around like the clown. Just lightly touching it. Man....I need a digital camera!

Take a peek at this link and go to the Anemonefish link..

You will see that Domino's are included in this schools study of anemones and anemone fish.

My domino used to share my haddoni carpet. Since they are from the same family as clown fish, they have similar properties. Generally with damselfish, the anemone behavior subsides with adulthood if I remember correctly.

I was surprised when I saw it the 1st time too.

Domino damsels are commonly found in giant elephant ear polyps well into adulthood. Some stay in anemones into adulthood but for some reason they abandon them most of the time.

My clowns and damsels all get along great together. They all have been together about a year. They all sleep in the same area of the tank with no fighting over territory. The only anemone I have is a purple tip that has been in the tank about a year. My domino damsel used to like to sleep in it. It now sleeps in the corner near the powerheads with my clowns.

About 3:00 this morning, I glanced in the tank and the damsel was cuddled up deep within the tentacles with the clown. I just hope that a territory battle doesn't follow. Right now, the two show no aggression toward each other.

Thanks for the link. This is by far the most interesting behavior that I have seen since starting my tank.
