Awhile ago I posted about a sponge that was growing all over the rock, a white tubular sponge. Now it is all dying off, it turns black and crumbles away. At the same time I am getting an strange diatom breakout that comes and goes. The coralline grows fine still but the diatom growth is too fast. Where are the silicates coming from that are feeding the diatoms? I use RO/DI for water change and top off. I top off with light kalk, but use a Calcium Reactor. I change 18-20 gallons every two weeks in my 75. I feed frozen food nearly twice a day and every other day feed green or purple seaweed pieces.
Are the silicates from the sponge die off, the feeding, or the reactor? Why are the sponges dying off on the ends, not enough DOS?
TIA
