Ernie, are you sure that tang didn't die from being in too small a tank?

Mysis are supposed to be much more nutritious than brine shrimp.
I soak my brine shrimp in selcon but for never less than 24 hours. I make enough for 2 days and store in the fridge.

That thought never crossed my mind

When you say you soak the brine shrimp at least 24 hours, do you mean the frozen kind?

Yes, I place a frozen pc (approximation here) in a small tupperware with lid. Then I drip the Selcon and sometimes Vita Chem on the shrimp. I do this right after the second days feeding so it is 24 hours before the next feeding. The way I figure it, it dosen't take anymore time to do this than would normally be spent thawing etc...

I put some brine in my refugium about a year ago.. To this day you can see brine all over the tank in clusters of hundres or even thousands.

Interesting SPC, glad you wrote. Might have to consider that. I don't thaw my food out first though. I just throw in a frozen chunk and let the shrimp come off slowly. If I want to be sure that there is more food available than the aggressive ones can eat,I just hold the frozen chunk in front of a powerhead. Everyone in the tank goes nuts.

last week at a lfs the owner showed me an in tank brine fish hatchery. it hung over the edge of the tank inside and was connected to a small remote air pump. it was about 6" tall and 3" wide and 2" thick. he poured eggs in a small compartment in the top. when they hatch, they swim out into the tank. looked simple enough and was working quite well.

I thought that they could only live for prolonged periods in hypersaline conditions?

Bee,

Thats the same gizmo that I have. It is the one I said I didn't want in my tank, but maybe in the sump. I have used it and it works pretty good. I just think that most of the guys in here aren't going to tolerate one in their tank. I think they are more apt to use the hang on cup so it can be taken out when company comes over or easily moved for cleaning. The other is pretty cool though and only like 15-20 bucks.

Harrison,

And do you have any pics of the gizmo, or links to pics of it?

Thanks!

I bought it at Octopuss Garden in San Diego for 15 bucks. They don't generally do mail order but if you can't find one anywhere and wnat one I would go pick one up and ship it to you. I will have to dig it up and post a pic a little later tonight. I haven't had it set-up since I put in the 80 gallon so it isn't sitting right here. I will get the name and such too.

Oh yeah, not sure I am buying that the brine shrimp are living in the sump either...
