what are the dimensions on the 37g you are getting? Are they something like 24x18x20? Just asking because that is the tank i have.
Ohh and just to answer the question you posted i have been having a purple tang and a gold stripe maroon in there for about 3&1/2 years with no problems

I just got a 37g tank this week. I had a 29g left over from my freshwater days that was very scratched, spent 50 dollars and got a new 37g. The dimensions are 30 x 12 x 22, for the person who asked.

I have in there:
Six Line wrasse- very active fish!
Lemonpeel angel - I only have polyps, mushrooms and 1 Rose BTA in this tank
Maroon Clown
Yellowheaded sleeper goby

The Oceanic 37 gallon tank measures 24.5 X 18.5 X 21.5 and the AGA measures 30 X 12 X 22.

I have the AGA tank and have a royal gramma, blue damsel and false perc.

Road Runner, your tank should be a minimum of 150 gallons for any tang. I dont want a mass-debate (er...) over this but im warning you its no good. The fish will live a short, miserable and stunted life unless you either house it correctly or give it back to the shop.

I know you may think that the fish is ok, and you have had no problems so far. But you could live in a box 6ft by 6ft without any apparent problems too, its just not fair really.

Any of these (preferably less than 3-4): Royal Gramma, blackcap basslet, fridmani basslet, flame hawk, six line wrasse, percula/ocellaris clowns, starcki damsel, long nose hawk, bangai cardinal(s), watchman gobies, bicolor blenny, chalk bass, flasher wrasses, lubbocks wrasse. All are pretty mellow, stay small, and are very hardy.

You could consider a single, more unique fish that, although won't bother corals, most would not consider reef safe because they eat other fish. An example would be frog fish. If I were to set up a 37 with very few (or only one) fish, then I would go with something like that. In other words, set up a species tank.

O.K. here's my overstocked 37 gallon.......

Mated pair of false percs......

Coral beauty (I have softies only and he does eat some yellow sponge once in a while but leaves the corals alone).........

3 Green chromis.........

There are alot of caves in the rockwork so every one has their own space and I am considering adding a dottyback. This makes for a nice blend of color in a slighty overstocked tank.

I have a blue tang, Royal Gramma, Mandarin, and Bicolor Blennie in my 65. Out of them, I would say that my Gramma is definatly my fav. I think everybody should have one.

Jawfish are great. I have them in both of my tanks, but in a reef setting, depending on where your corals are positioned, they could get a sand bath several times a day. My jawfish are busy a great deal of the time keeping their burrows free from loose sand, which they indiscriminately deposit anywhere. I've even seen them carry mouthfuls half way across the tank and dump them. Just a consideration. I'm not sure how corals would react to this.

thanks for the comments!
It's a 37show oceanic (24x18x21)
I had a flamehawk in my old 180 and they are very clever fish! they remind me of chameleons.
this is really a hard disision. here are my different thoughts:
flamehawk, 2 percs
2percs, white jawfish
flamehawk, 2 yellow gobies
6line, flamehawk, jawfish
I don't know!
