Just curious... Has anyone tried adding B-IONIC to make up water? Might be a nice way to have it auto-dosed throught the week automatically without the need for a separate dosing pump. I'm just wondering if this would work -> or if it needs marine water in order to dissolve properly.

thoughts?

As Randy said, you can add one or the other (I add the alkalinity/buffering part), but not both. If you try to add both, you'll get a pretty white snow in the water, consisting of all those "balanced" elements you paid so much for.

Well.. it was worth a try

On a similar note.. do most folks dose the different parts of B-IONIC on alternate days, or just add them a few mins apart during the same session?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Good question... I have always added both parts at different times. Usually within 5 minutes of each other. I add these after the lights go out, and add it in the main flow of a powerhead. Just wondering. I like using B-ionic, it is soooo much easier than Kalk. At least for me.

Scott,
I am currently using the method you just described. I have the Commanders Dosing pump made by Innovative Aquatics that provides two channel dosing capability. So I have two separate containers filled with top off water where part 1 and 2 are mixed in. The Commander can dose up to 300ml/hr per channel which is sufficient for making up the 2 gallons/day that I lose due to evaporation. I have been using this setup since July and has worked reliably. It saves time on maintenance required for adding additives and top off water. You can visit the manufacturer's website at www.innovative.aquatics. They have been great to work with so far.

I'd suggest doing it before your lights come on, not after they go off. You're less likely to peak your alk or Ca concentrations that way, and it'd help prevent a large daily pH swing.
