How stable is your tank. What I mean is how often do you "adjust" you Ca++? You can go above 450 and have it slowly drop until you get back. I would do a good sized water change, slowly increase your dosing, I am assuming that you are using a two part buffer and have a relaxing vacation. I would be more concerned with my tank sitter overfeeding or my heaters going crazy. have a nice vacation.

I guess my tank is fairly stable. I usually adjust once, sometimes 2x a week. I'm wondering if perhaps the pagoda cup and coralline algae have reached a temporary plateau in their growth spurts, thus the reason for not having to adjust it over the last 7 days. By the way, I am not using a 2 part buffer, and I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this...all I use is Seachem Ca++ buffer. Thanks for your advice.

Hi guys. I was wondering what the ramifications would be if Ca++ levels exceed 450 ppm. I will be out of town for a week, and some friends are taking care of my tank during my absence. While I trust their ability to take care of my fish, I'm concerned about their ability to accurately test and adjust calcium. I tested it yesterday, and 4 days after adding 2.5 ml, it was 425 ppm. I would hate to tell them to not bother checking it and to just add another 2.5 ml, but could this cause problems if the level gets too high?

Thanks for the advice,

Harrell

One last thing. All I have in my tank that relies on Ca++ is a Pagoda cup and coralline algae.
