what additives do you put in your reef? which ones do you feel you cant live without? i use kalk and or 2-part cal-alk, and just deceided to try iodine.
I have a 58 gallon tank with a mixture of hard and soft corals. I drip kalkwasser (about 1/2 gallon per day). I use a two part ALK/CA additive. I do use Kent Iodine and Strontium (about 1/2 what they recommend). I do a 20% water change every 4-6 weeks. The additives that I cannot live without are the ALK/CA additives. I do use Turbo Calcium and Super buffer from time to time if the levels get to far out. With the water changes I am not sure the Iodine and Strontium do much but I skim heavily and they don't seem to have an adverse affect.
I add a varied diet(heavy feeder), kalk as topoff water, 10% water change every two weeks. Recently my alk has been low so I've started to add Seachem Reef Builder. I would like to do away with having to add the reef builder. I successfully maintained Ca/alk with kalk alone for the first year.
I throw one teaspoon of seachem reef builder in a 5 gallon bucket that I go to for top offs and kind of fly by the seat of my pants with the reef complete. 5 ml today, 3 ml four days later etc. Very random.
